The Place of Consciousness in Nature

"On the most common conception of nature, nature is the physical
world. But on the most common conception of consciousness, it is not
easy to see how it could be part of the physical world. So it seems that
to find a place for consciousness within the natural order, we must either
revise our conception of consciousness, or revise our conception of
nature." (David Chalmers, "Consciousness and Its Place in Nature")

  1. I'd say a Thomist would call for a revision of our conceptions of both consciousness and nature. As Ed Feser might say, substance dualism and materialism are two sides of the same mechanistic coin.

By the way, Zach, I like the new blog layout, but, then again, I do also use Blogger.
